intro
In a new column, 'Evidently Spencertown', Pennyblackmusic writer and poet Spencer Robertshaw presents 'Stairlift from Heaven', which is to be recited or sung in the style of Led Zepplein's 'Stairway to Heaven'
Stairlift from Devon (To be recited or sung/sang in the style of Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven') There’s a lady that’s sure that’s she’s getting old And she’s trying a stairlift from Devon When it gets there she goes upstairs for some clothes, How absurd can it get, she thought not much more So she's trying a stairlift from Devon There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure, Because she knows that the chair could start leaning It takes her full load, The seat is shallow but up she goes, In a whirl she forgot what her cane was for She still climbs with her load, The seat’s still shallow but up she goes So she’s still trying her stairlift from Devon Then squawks her parrot off we go, Feathers bright green and yellow She’s got the gist of it at last So she starts going fast She starts to rock and the seat rolls Her confidence builds and so off she goes This Stannas seat was meant to last Now Mary’s starting to have a blast No more the stairway outcast It doesn’t matter that she’s old As long as she grips on - keeps hold She’s got he hang of it at last Her fear of stairs all in the past Now from the hall straight up the wall Whenever natures makes a call Her bladder loves the quick relief No more soggy pants and grief Her dreams come true steeped with belief So she’s bought the stairlift from Devon
