intro
Rewarding second album from energetic eleven member Icelandic instrumental group Storsveit Nix Noltes, who have taken a collection of traditional Bulgarian and Balkan folk songs and given them a modern arrangement
Stórsveit Nix Noltes are an eleven member Icelandic band comprising of both new and established musicians. 'Royal Family-Divorce' is their second album. All the songs on the album are transcriptions from original Bulgarian and Balkan folk songs, which the band researched thoroughly to ensure they were traditional folk songs and not original compositions. It's a purely instrumental album, but very energetic and with a modern arrangement to bring these traditional songs up to date. It reminds me of an album of folk tunes I brought back with me from a trip to Romania, but without the scratchiness where that was transferred from very old recordings. The sound is layered and towards the end of some tracks starts to sound a little messy, but it works and for those like me who enjoy Eastern European folk music it's an rewarding experience. It's not Gogol Bordello though, so if you are looking for that gypsy/folk sound you are not going to find it here.
