intro
Excellent debut album from Jordan Zevon, the son of cult artist Warren Zevon, whose music in contrast to his Dad's has a massive and commerical pop sound
‘Insides Out’ is the debut solo album from Jordan Zevon, the son of Warren Zevon, who sadly passed away a few years ago from lung cancer. They might born the same name but the music they have produced is completely different from each other. Warren's music was a lot darker and had a more of a cult following, but he made many friends in the industry who also played on his records, 1987's ‘Sentimental Hygiene’, for example, featured many guests on it including all of the early original line up of REM , Neil Young and Bob Dylan. ‘Insides Out’ is in contrast much more of an easy listening experience. It starts with ‘The Joke's on Me’, which is commercial in a big pop way sounds like Squeeze. ‘This Girl’ is a catchy summertime number , while ‘Home’ again is another big pop song, full of perfect FM friendliness. ‘Just Do it’ sounds like a perfect combination of Squeeze and Joe Jackson. It is a massive pop number with a touch of classic McCartney and to finish it off a touch of the Killers at their most commercial . ‘Camilla Rhodes’ deserves to be a number 1 everywhere. It's that good. It's a huge song that deserves to be universally heard. Both ‘Insides Out’, the title track, and ‘American Standard’ are as good as anything by McCartney or Squeeze. ‘Studebaker’ is one of his father's songs, which not used on Warren's 1978 album, ‘Excitable Boy’, is both a fine tribute to his father and also features some truly stunning musicianship throughout. ‘Payday’ has a rocky reggae vibe, while closer ‘Too Late to Be Saved’ is a smooth pop number which ends this fine album in true style.
