intro
Splendid second album from indie pop group the Icicles, recollective of their fellow Americans, All Girl Summer Fun Band and the Finishing School
Almost two years ago, I wrote about the Icicles’ debut album, 'A Hundred patterns', and reading over that review now, I realise that it might as well be about this, their second album. Things haven’t changed a lot since then, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The keyboards, played by Joleen Rumsey, are still very audible, and it’s hard not to think about their fellow Americans, All Girl Summer Fun Band and the Essex Green's Sasha Bell’s solo group the Finishing School. These are really good songs, with the opening track 'Crazy' (which reminds me a bit of the good old band Barcelona) being one of the best. In a better world it would have been a huge hit on the radio. But this is a sad world, at least when it comes to the music charts, so we will probably never ever see a band like the Icicles making it big. But then again, maybe that’s why they are so good, when we can compare them to the horrible sounds of the contemporary hits ? I guess so. But the Icicles are good anyway, even if you don’t compare them to Britney Spears.
