intro
At its Carling Academy, Jonjo McNeill watches controversial duo the Kills play a riveting set and "the sleaziest, most glamorous rock and roll Newcastle's seen for quite some time"
Dressed in black and with an ever present cigarette in her mouth, VV and her guitar playing sidekick Hotel sidle onto the stage oozing rock and roll appeal. Celebrating the release of their second album ‘No Wow’, the Kills play songs like ‘I Hate The Way You Love’ and ‘Murdermile’ like they’re part of them. They embody the spirit of their songs like nobody else quite does. A stripped down two piece making a sound like this is a sound to behold, and it’s the sleaziest, most glamorous rock and roll Newcastle’s seen for quite some time. Quite why VV wastes all that money on cigarettes she doesn’t actually smoke is a pet quibble, as it proves once and for all that smoking IS cool! The crowd would’ve maybe liked a few more tunes from their debut album 'Kill on Your Mean Side', but everybody leaves feeling dirty, and that’s what they came here for.
