intro
Gentle, rootsy heartbreaker pop on second album from solo artist Aaron Booth, which grows with each new listening
Newly-signed to the increasingly prolific and respected Canadian label, Endearing Records, ‘Our Last Escape’ is Aaron Booth’s second album, and follows his 2002 debut, ‘Transparent’. Vocally he’s quite similar to Chris Mills though often much more nasal in tone. For the most part though his voice works well amidst his gently rootsy, pop-inflected introspective heartbreakers, although it is perhaps lacking a little in range at times. The delicately adorned arrangements – be it muted brass, lap steel, vibes – embellish his songs very appealingly. The album may not make an immediate impact from the outset - his more fleshed out material – songs like ‘Couldn’t Wait’ and ‘Fall Over Me Satellite’ for example probably make the strongest initial impression. Over time though, the album proves itself to be quite an affecting set of songs and well worth spending the time getting to know.
