intro
Debut album from new "emo" group, who, while having a style very similar to the Get Up Kids, also combine this with "a rockier sound and passionate yet tuneful vocals" that are very much of their own.
Ahh, Emo. Currently the music of choice for sensitive young things all over the world, it seems you can't get away from it these days. It is not hard to see why, with great bands like The Get Up Kids, the Promise Ring and Juno providing us with bucketloads of energetic, catchy tunes about not being understood by their girlfriends. On the other hand, some Emo bands (no names mentioned) come across as droning, rather pathetic and, well, a bit boring really. Luckily, The Milwaukees have managed to avoid falling into the latter category. They have in fact hit upon a potentially winning formula. The music is very much like The Get up Kids in style, but the Milwaukees have made it their own by adding a bit more meat to their tunes, and have a rockier sound and passionate yet tuneful vocals. 'Drink Soviet Champagne' and 'When They Attack' are punk enough for a wider audience, while on slower songs like 'If Only You See It My Way' and 'Until our eyes burn' the Milwaukees manage to maintain their energy. An obvious must for Emo fans, With enough happening to win over the emo-sceptics.
