Orange Can hail from South London. Their soundscapes are nonetheless country-ish with chirping birdies, lazy background noises, and are ever soothing and all perfectly relaxing. Whilst picking up fragile, yet beautiful melodies, some pretty psychedelic structures can be heard here. Orange Can's debut "Entrance High Rise" comes in a highly collectable, lp version. It plays from the inside out, and, as with their previous 12"ep "The Engine House", each track runs smoothly into the next. But I'd call these session- ,rather than concept-records. In this case, it's like an entire novel, that's read out to you. "Entrance High Rise" compromises of folky sketches and Lennonesque snapshots, from a day well spent, prefarably in the sun. Orange Can ask for attention for starters with the eerie, spacey title-track. They follow this tenderly with "Butterfly" and continue in a friendly, trippy mode throughout the album. The flow comes naturally, once the lid is off. It eases any stress. With sparkles and sense of taste, this is like a tranquillizing trainride. "Entrance High Rise" is kind of demanding though, since it requires close listening. It's a gratifying effort. No false gimmickery production of any sort. No cover-up here. Some of the songs are put so shortly; one cannot afford to tune out. The point is, then easily, missed, but while this may all be a bit of too much asking, Orange Can also can simply be enjoyed as the new TV Personalities, Byrds or The Beta Band. You'll find out there's more to Orange Can though.
